The Gold Coast Hospital provides health care from the state border of NSW to the Coomera region in Queensland as part of the Gold Coast Health Service District. The hospital incorporates two campuses located at Southport and Robina. Medical, nursing, clinical and non-clinical support staff, along with volunteers, work together to deliver quality care and service to the community.

Southport Campus
The campus comprises over 400 beds and admits over 60 thousand patients annually. It is a teaching hospital for Bond University medical students and Griffith University medical, nursing, oral and allied health students.
The site was acquired in 1922 using funds raised by local residents. In 1948, it opened as a 12 bed after-care maternity hospital. Wards, operating theatres, x-ray and an Emergency Department were added in 1960, followed by a Dental Clinic in 1963, and a four bed Intensive Care Unit in the mid-seventies.
In 1971 the current multi-storey hospital commenced and was officially opened in 1979. Stage two opened in 1986. A new Rehabilitation building was built adjacent to the towerblock in 2002.
Services are continuing to expand to manage the demands of a rapidly growing population, advances in treatment and health technology. The hospital now provides MRI services, and has built a Cardiac Catheter Suite in recent years. Planning is underway to build a new hospital on a greenfields site within 10 years as outlined in A New Vision.

Robina Campus
The Robina Campus was acquired by the state government in June 2002, further increasing the network of public health services provided to the Gold Coast community. Formerly a private hospital, Robina Campus was built in 2000 as a subacute hospital.
Robina has over 160 beds in both medical and surgical wards. The campus also has operating theatres, renal services, mental health services, and a range of outpatient services.
A new emergency department and expanded health services are currently being constructed at the Robina Campus.
The Emergency Department is due to open in June 2007.
