Community, Oral & Allied Health Services
Adult Community Health
The District has an extensive range of health services available within the community at a number of facilities. Programs also extend into the community to residential and nursing homes. Clinical support services are also utilised in the community to support and complement services in the acute setting.
HACC (Home and Community Care)
Provides help in the home for eligible residents.
Indigenous Health
Provides health assistance, programs, advice and support to indigenous population in both the hospital and community settings.
Oral Health
School Dental Service provided to local community.
Adult General and Emergency Dental Services - Adult general, emergency and limited specialist dental services are provided from five clinics located across the District to the eligible population. Clinics are located at Runaway Bay, Southport, Broadbeach, Robina and Palm Beach.
Allied Health or Clinical Support
Includes a vast range of clinical support specialties occurring across all Divisions.
Services include:
Audiology
Nutrition
The Nutrition Department is based on Southport Campus and services inpatient and outpatient needs. It also has a presence in Community Health Centres. Services support all divisions and the Diabetes Resource Centre, Indigenous Health Service and programs in the community.
Occupational Therapy
Support is provided across all divisions, includes inpatient and outpatient multidisciplinary programs. Specialised hand therapy such as lymphodema and rehabilitation is part of the service.
Physiotherapy
Support is provided across all divisions, and includes inpatient and outpatient services. Lymphedema and incontinence clients are referred to the department.
Social Work
Work with people to identify the impact of illness, disability or other changes in health and to provide support and assistance. Services are provided across the Southport and Robina campuses and in the community including but not limited to:
- Medicine
- Aged Care
- Mental Health
- Rehabilitation
- Coronary Care
- Oncology
- Maternity
- Paediatrics
Speech Pathology
Provides assessment, diagnosis, modification and treatment to individuals with communication and feeding problems.
In hospital the service treats a broad range of the following acquired or developmental communication and feeding disorders at all levels of severity:
- Neurological disorders - aphasia, dyspraxia, dysarthria
- Oncology/ palliative, Cancer Services
- Head and neck surgery, including laryngectomy
- Voice disorders
- Respiratory
- Degenerative diseases
- Fluency disorders (stuttering)
- Geriatric disorders
- Head injury (at all stages)
- High level language dysfunction
- Paediatric, neonatal feeding disorders
Provide both inpatient and outpatient services to ensure continuity of care. Outpatient rehabilitation and non acute services are provided by Hospital clinics. Outpatient referrals are accepted from hospital clinics, other hospitals, community agencies and GPs.
