About us
The district has two hospitals, one at Southport and the other at Robina.
The Gold Coast Hospital is the acute general public hospital for the Gold Coast region. It serves a community of approximately 520 thousand with considerable seasonal variation due to its appeal as a holiday destination.
Southport is the larger hospital with approximately 425 beds while Robina campus has approximately 165 beds. The Robina Hospital is undergoing a $287.7 million expansion including:
- a 364 bed facility on completion
- education and research facilities
- more surgery capacity
- upgrades to medical imaging, pharmacy, pathology and catering services
- new services including paediatric short stay unit
In January 2005 Griffith and Bond Universities commenced medical courses and medical students will be attending the hospital as part of their clinical training.
The position of Executive Director Medical Services oversees professional standards, quality, patient complaints, ethics, awards/conditions relevant to senior staff, registration requirements and joint appointments.
New public teaching hospital for the Gold Coast
Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) is scheduled for completion by 2012. GCUH is a new $1.76 billion public teaching hospital and will have 750 overnight beds when fully operational. The site is located in Parklands on the Gold Coast. GCUH will supply a full range of services including:
- new cancer, neonatal, trauma, neuoscience and cardiac services
- two mult-storey car parks for 3000 car spaces
- Gold Coast Rapid Transit (light rail) station at front entrance
- private hospital on-site
