Mental Health and ATODS

The Gold Coast Health Service District provides all public mental health and ATODS (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs) services on the Gold Coast. The Mental Health Service provides assessment, treatment and support to people who have a mental illness. Services are provided depending on individual need and ranges from inpatient treatment to support in the community.
Acute Care
- Acute Inpatient Beds - two wards at the Gold Coast Hospital and 10 acute young adult beds at the Robina Hospital.
- Emergency Psychiatry Service (EPS) based in the Emergency Department (ED) at Gold Coast Hospital
- The Acute Care Treatment Team (ACTT) based at Gold Coast Hospital
- A Rehabilitation Service based at the Gold Coast Hospital
- A Consultation Liaison Service based at Gold Coast Hospital and servicing both Gold Coast and Robina Hospitals.
Continuing Care
- Robina Hospital - includes aged care mental health beds, extended treatment beds and extended rehabilitation beds
- Community mental health clinics located in Ashmore and Palm Beach.
- A community elderly service for the mentally ill.
Child and Youth
- Inpatient beds at the Robina Hospital
- Outpatient clinics located at Southport and Burleigh
- Infant Mental Health - a limited community based service for acute needs
- Consultation Liaison Service based at Gold Coast Hospital
- School Mental Health Programs - provides a service to local schools
- Child Safety Unit
Elderly
- Aged care mental health beds at the Robina Hospital
- A community elderly service for the mentally ill
ATODS
Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs is a service which develops and provides innovative solutions to reduce the harmful impact of drug use. Services are based around two clinics on the Gold Coast, Northside clinic located at the Gold Coast Hospital and Southside Clinic based at Miami.
Northside Clinic
- Hospital Alcohol and Drug Service (HADS)
- Consultation, liaison, prevention and intervention
- Community based programs including counselling, relapse prevention (NSP), Needle and Syringe, Drug Court, Therapeutic Advisory Service (TODAS) and health promotion
Southside Clinic
- Opioid Treatment Clinic
- Opioid Replacement Therapy utilising Buprenorphine and Methadone
- Ambulatory Opioid Detoxification
- Relapse Prevention utilising Naltrexone
- Liver Clinic
- Blood Born Virus Screening/Counselling
ATODS works closely with Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) referring clients for continuing support.
