Corporate Services

Corporate Services incorporates a broad range of services and functions to support the delivery of clinical services provided at facilities within the Gold Coast Health Service District (GCHSD).

The Division of Corporate Services incorporates a number of departments including Operational Support Services, Administrative Services, District Information Services, Building and Engineering Services, Library Services, Business Management. The Executive Director of Corporate Services is also responsible for managing the contractual arrangements between the Gold Coast Health Service District and external, statewide and corporate service providers. 

Operational support services

Food Services - provides food and beverage services across District facilities. This includes the patient food services and some special official function catering for the District. The service also provides a café for staff and patients at both Gold Coast Hospital and Robina Hospital.

Porterage - provides services including patient transport and patient transfers, assistance with patient handling, medical gases replacement, equipment requests and transportation, food trolley transportation and after hours dirty linen collection.

Linen - coordination and delivery of linen and supply of staff uniforms in the GCHSD. A limited sewing service is also provided.

Cleaning Services - provides scheduled general internal and external cleaning services as well as on demand cleaning services such as terminal cleaning of rooms, bed cleaning and spills. This unit also manages the collection, storage and disposal of all waste.

Protective Services - responsible for the security and safety of staff, visitors, buildings and equipment.

Library - A well equipped library is located at Gold Coast Hospital. The Library is staffed by professional librarians and technical library assistants. In accordance with current evidence based practice, the library provides a focused level of service to support the information needs of clinicians and support staff in the delivery of patient care, research, management, training and continuing education.

Administrative services

Administrative Services provide a range of administrative support across all district facilities. Positions include ward clerk, medical typist, switchboard, reception, patient services, outpatient administrative services, front enquiry counter, emergency department administration, information resourcing and executive support services.

These positions are located within the various departments which include Dialysis, Haematology/Oncology, Intensive Care, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Cardiology, Rehabilitation, Medicine, Surgery, Emergency, Outpatients, Reception, Community Child Health and Executive Services.

Additional administrative positions are located within the majority of Community Health and Oral Health facilities.

Building engineering and maintenance services (BEMS)

BEMS has district-wide responsibility for the repairs and maintenance of all building fabric, plant and equipment, non-medical electrical equipment, systems and services. These responsibilities are exercised through the management of in-house trades and labour; and where necessary, the management and supervision of contract labour to supplement in-house resources.  

District Information services

District Information Services is a GCHSD service which supports the governance of information and communications technology investments and applications on a District basis.

This department works in partnership with the Information Directorate which is a Queensland Health corporate and statewide service which supports the governance of information and communications technology investments and applications on an enterprise basis.

Staff from both areas are located on site at the GCHSD.  

Statewide & contracted services

The majority of staff providing these services are actually located within the GCHSD and partner closely with District staff.

The Shared Service Initiative aims to consolidate corporate service delivery across whole-of-Government by standardising business processes and information and communication technology. To achieve this aim, Queensland Government Agencies were formed into five Clusters, with Education Queensland and Queensland Health clusters in their own right. The Queensland Health Shared Service Provider (SSP) operation commenced on 1 December 2003 and provides an extensive range of corporate services to clients within Queensland Health.

Services delivered by the SSP to Districts include:

  • Finance
  • Procurement
  • Human Resources (including payroll)
  • Industrial Relations
  • Workplace Health and Safety
  • Document and Records Management
  • Telecommunications
  • Fleet Administration

The information directorate

This is a Queensland Health corporate and statewide service which supports the governance of information and communications technology investments and applications on an enterprise basis.

This department works in partnership with District Information Services which is a GCHSD service which supports the governance of information and communications technology investments and applications on a District basis.

Queensland Health Pathology and Scientific Services are delivered on site through a contractual arrangement.

Biomedical Technology Services provide corporate integrated health technology management support to the GCHSD. This includes consultancy, supplier and service contract management, and the maintenance of various classes of medical, dental and laboratory equipment.
